Hope you all had good Christmases. Sadly, Santa didn't leave Neil Pearson in my stocking as specifically requested ... however he (in the guise of Casper) did leave me a dinky little gadget called a Sony Bean, an MP3 player which needs the mind of a rocket scientist to operate, but it is a cracking little gizmo and those of you who know me well will remember I do love my gizmos.
Here's some pics from the last few days ... it is trying to snow here (YIPPEE!!) but not settling properly yet. BRING IT ON

UB40
|
|
Yesterday was a day of mixed fortunes ... on the one hand I discovered that for 9 months I haven't been paying National Insurance (the fault of the company that prepares my company's payroll - my details were incorrectly input in the first place) so now the nice people at the National Insurance want back the missing payments. All £861 of it. Just before Christmas, too! How thoughtful of them.
However, just to show how the fickle finger of fate can deal a good hand just after a bad one, my mate Rich rang me in the evening to say he had a couple of tickets for the last UB40 concert of the tour at the NEC, and would I like to go? Not a difficult decision to make, really.
They were brilliant. Here's some pics...

Arsenal v Wigan
|
|
This weekend, Casper, Emmeline and I went a trip Oop North to see the mighty ARSENAL play northern poofters WIGAN. We went with my mate Dave who lives near Liverpool and supports Wigan. Casper and I, of course, being Londoners, support Arsenal.
Arsenal beat Wigan 3-2, thanks in part to some shoddy defending from both sides in the first half, when all the goals were scored.
The second half to my mind was better football, but no further goals.
UP THE GUNNERS
Pics were a little difficult as we were sitting directly facing the setting sun for the first half, but here's what I did get...! (If you look closely you will see the legendary Thierry Henry in some of them - enlargement at the end)

My mate Dave came down from Oop North a couple of weekends ago to help me move some of the detritis I live with. The effort was obviously all far too much for him (or it could have been the 13 pints of Stella he put away in the Reindeer whilst I was working on Saturday night) because he nodded off during dinner. Awwww....
... oh, and some nightime pics of Banbury Cross.

Banbury has a canal running through the centre of it, and a large community of canal boats. Today I took the dogs for a trot alongside said canal ...

Soul Foundation
|
|
Craig is one of my oldest friends. I first knew him in Nottingham in 1977 when he was just 14 and I was 18!
He trained as an actor and stayed with me in London for a few weeks back in 1986. He now lives back in his native Nottinghamshire and sings in a duo called SOUL FOUNDATION. Last night Casper, Em and I went to Nuneaton (don't ever go there, it's a hellhole) to a less than salubrious pub to watch the act. Very good they were too - here's some pics

Banbury Fair
|
|
Every year about this time the Fair descends on Banbury. Traditionally it has always been held in the Market Square (this dates back to Medieval times) although the growth of the fair means that it has spread over the rest of the town, including opposite my office alongside Banbury Cross. Tonight I went with friends Mandie, Rich, Pete, Ray and Eileen.
The rides are set up right by the buildings in the Market Square, and are literally inches away ... however the fairground people know their stuff and no-one has been slammed into a wall at 60mph ... yet.
Here's some pics.

Dogs in the drink
|
|
Today was a hazy, balmy, unseasonably warm autumn day, so I decided to walk the dogs down by the river. The river is covered with a tight-knit layer of green weed which gives the surface of the water a smooth, solid appearance.
Rio, thinking he was stepping onto firm ground, promptly fell in. Shortly afterwards, Louie did the same thing. On the way back, Reuben managed a hat trick ... you'd think they'd learn, wouldn't you? Notably, only the two girls were wise enough not to try and walk on water!!
I should add - not one of the dachshunds would EVER get wet on purpose!
